About CESAR

CESAR is an international enterprise with over 1500 registered users in thirty countries around the world.

The day-to-day running and the development of CESAR are in the hands of its Director, Mark Bannister, and a supporting team based at Oxford Brookes University (UK).

They are advised by an Advisory Board and an Editorial Board made up of theatre specialists from several countries who are charged with ensuring that CESAR fulfils its mission of providing, freely and without formality, a resource of use to all those around the world (scholars, students, teachers, theatre-lovers) who have an interest in the French theatre of the Ancien Régime.

The Advisory Board identifies potential sources of funding, negotiates with potential partner organisations and advises on publicity for CESAR.

The current members are:

  • Mark Bannister (Oxford Brookes)
  • Christian Biet (Paris X-Nanterre)
  • Jan Clarke (Durham)
  • Georges Forestier (Paris IV-Sorbonne)
  • Mark Ledbury (Clark Art Institute, Williamstown)

The Editorial Board is made up of scholars with experience of contributing and entering data and other materials into the database. They provide guidance and support for new contributors and may propose modifications to the editorial functions within CESAR.

The current members are:

  • Géraud de Lavedan (Toulouse)
  • Martin Nadeau (UQAM)
  • Anastasia Sakhnovskaia (Oxford Brookes)
  • Jean-Philippe van Aelbrouck (Bruxelles)
